(International Christian Concern) – For over three years, horrific crimes have been committed against the Christian farmers in Nigeria at the hands of militant Fulani herdsmen. In the last three years alone, over 16,000 Christians have been killed. Yet, the Nigerian government is doing little to nothing to stop the violence and bring justice to the families of those killed.
This week, the United States State Department is heading to Nigeria to discuss bringing an end to Boko Haram and the Fulani militants.
According to the United States Congressional Research Services, “The government has tolerated the violence, creating a culture of impunity that has emboldened Boko Haram and its sympathizers.”
In April 2018, the Trump administration signed a deal with the Nigerian government for the purchase of 12 fighter jets in hopes that the government would use these jets to bring an end to the violence. Yet, with nothing be stop the violence and advocate for peace, the Trump administration has some big decisions to make concerning how to move forward.
Many are hoping that this week the Trump administration would stand up in support of religious freedoms in Nigeria.
